Marcos MesquitaComposer, arranger and flutist, born 1959 in Brazil. First musical training at Pró-Arte in Rio de Janeiro with Esther Scliar and Hans-Joachim Koellreutter (musical theory and analysis), Elza Schachter and Estela Caldi (piano), Odette Ernest Dias and Norton Morozowicz (flute) and Homero de Magalhães (chamber music and musical appreciation). After the composition studies at the Music School of the Federal University in Rio de Janeiro and conclusion with Hans-Joachim Koellreutter at the Faculty of Arts São Paulo (Fap-Arte), he went to Europe where he studied theoretical subjects with Friedrich Neumann at the High School of Music in Vienna and, thanks a DAAD scholarship, moved to Germany to study composition with Helmut Lachenmann at the Conservatory in Stuttgart. Back to Brazil he concluded with summa cum laude the master degree at the Arts Institute of the State University in Campinas (Unicamp, São Paulo). In his country he received 9 first prizes and 5 other awards at contests of interpretation, arrangement and composition. He wrote commissioned works for Vitae São Paulo (Trilogy of Sound Chronicles) and for RIOARTE Rio de Janeiro (Trilogy of Sound Parks). Since April 2002 he has studied for the doctor degree at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, from October 2003 on with a scholarship Capes-DAAD. (M.M./2004)
